FS prioritises #SanitaryPads in schools | News Article

Almost R14 million has been earmarked for the provision of sanitary pads at schools across the Free State.

Finance MEC, Elzabe Rockman, said in her 2019 budget speech that the money will be directed to the Sanitary Dignity project, which will aim to ensure that female learners will receive sanitary towels.

Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni, said that from April 1, sanitary pads along with white bread and cake flour will not carry value-added tax (VAT).

The announcement made during Mboweni’s budget speech was considered a win for female consumers. In 2018, the term Pink Tax made huge waves on different social media platforms.

OFM News reported at the time the trending topic centered on research that women are being charged more for items such as razors, clothing, lotions and underwear than their male counterparts.
