"It is alleged that a 58-year-old woman was at her house in Derby at about 12:45, when she heard a loud bang on the roof of her house. She then went outside to investigate, but was allegedly attacked and hit with an iron pipe on the head when she entered her house," said Colonel Adele Myburgh.

"The suspect fled the scene after grabbing the victim’s handbag containing a cellular phone, purse and personal documents."

The victim's husband, who is disabled and wheelchair-bound, contacted the neighbours. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was still being treated for the injuries sustained during the attack.

"The suspect was successfully traced and arrested in the early hours on Saturday, 9 March 2019. Upon arrest, the police recovered most of the stolen items that were found in possession of the suspect," said the police colonel.
