The Democratic Alliance (DA) is on the doorstep of the Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, carrying empty water buckets to demonstrate their daily struggles with empty taps.

The DA leader in the province, Patricia Kopane, says the service delivery march seek to highlight the plight that is faced by women across the province. She says these women continue to face daily struggles in accessing water for their households.

The DA also wants Ntombela to intervene and ensure that municipalities take active steps to pay debts that they owe to water boards. OFM News previously reported that the DA national leader, Mmusi Maimane, delivered a memorandum of demands in relation to the municipalities indebted to Eskom.

Kopane says when the municipalities fail to pay water boards, it’s the people who suffer because it leads to non-delivery of essential water supplies to residents. “The Provincial government has to take action and protect the peoples' basic rights to water,” adds Kopane.

She is flanked by the DA Shadow Minister for Basic Education, Nomsa Marchesi, and the member of the provincial legislature (MPL), Roy Jankielsohn. Meanwhile, the provincial government is yet to comment.
