NW MEC mandated to attend #Vryburg protests─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:00 Thu, 14 Mar 2019
Barely a day after protests by irate residents in Vryburg in the Naledi Local Municipality under the Dr RS Mompati District, the MEC for Community Safety, Mpho Motlhabane, has been mandated to go and address the demands of the residents.
The North West premier, Job Mokgoro, deployed the MEC to intervene and try to stabilise the situation in that area.
This as residents demand that two mayors in a local and district municipality must vacate office for allegedly failing to attend to their water issues, amongst other demands. Violence erupted on Wednesday afternoon following the handover of the memorandum to the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Motlalepula Rosho, when residents burned tyres.
OFM News previously reported that on Wednesday a group of residents burned tyres after handing over the memorandum but police quickly managed to control the situation. Motlhabane is set to meet with the South African National Civic Organisation, district municipality officials, community leaders, and South African Police Services (SAPS). The district municipality is one of the municipalities that invested taxpayers’ money with the now collapsed and controversial VBS Mutual Bank.
