Man accused of murdering former lover’s daughter to make court appearance─── PULANE CHOANE 17:30 Mon, 18 Mar 2019
The 28-year-old man, accused of allegedly murdering a six year old, is due to make his court appearance next week Friday after he missed two court appearances earlier this month.
The suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 05 April, for allegedly poisoning and killing his former lover’s daughter in November last year. His last appearance at the court was on Monday, 03 December. OFM News previously reported that the accused missed two consecutive court appearances over what court officials described as a power outage at a Bloemfontein correctional facility. The outage resulted in officials at the prison not being able to look up his name on the roll of those due to make their court appearances. Meanwhile, the ANC Women’s League in the province expressed concern over the crimes committed against women and children and it continues to advocate for those who have been victims of these crimes.
Chairperson of the ANC Women’s League in the Free State, Mapeseka Nkoane, said this murder, as well as that of seven-year-old Nthabiseng “Mingy” Makhoba, who was buried on Friday, 15 March, as sickening. Nkoane said agencies such as the Women’s League, members of civil society and other organizations need to place pressure on legal authorities to act swiftly and harshly against those implicated in these crimes.
Makhoba was a grade 2 learner at Tebello Primary School, in Rocklands. She was last seen in the company of a friend and a fellow learner after school on Monday, March 4. Two days later, her body was discovered by Leabua Tjemolane and a group of his friends in an open field facing the Caleb Motshabi informal settlement casually named ‘Dinaweng’. The deceased resided in the Ipopeng township at the time of her death.
