Normalcy returns to Marquard following unrest─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:33 Sat, 23 Mar 2019
Normalcy has returned to the Free State town of Marquard following days of protests.
Community members in the town, which falls under Setsoto Local Municipality, have been up and arms over lack of service delivery.
Residents embarked on a protest since Thursday night, barricading roads and throwing rocks at passing motorists. Police spokesperson,Phumelelo Dhlamini, previously warned motorists to steer clear of heading in the direction of the town and advised they make use of alternative routes.
He tells OFM News the situation is at this stage calm with mob up operations underway by the municipality. He says there is, however, still a high police contingency in the area.
OFM News reported previously that the municipality was amongst those that are financially constrained and listed amongst the 18 needing urgent intervention following the Auditor General’s latest report.
