NW premier visits Bloemhof following gang violence protests | News Article

The North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, is today expected to visit the community of Bloemhof and surrounding areas in an effort to address service delivery issues facing this agricultural town.

Questions regarding high unemployment and gang-related issues, which allegedly include some of the high-profile police members in the area, are amongst some of the issues he is expected to address. Mokgoro’s visit to the town comes a month after violent protests broke out and community members accused police and members of the community policing forum (CPF) of failing to show a sense of urgency in dealing with gang-related crimes in the area. They have alleged that some of the men and women in blue are deeply involved in criminal activities and work with criminals in hiding stolen goods. It is further alleged that some work very closely with notorious gang groups that continue to terrorise the community.

Mokgoro's spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, in a statement says "Bloemhof has been marred by acts of gangsterism for over a period of three years, which led to not only the terrorisation of community members, but torching of houses, killings and disruption of schools".

He says the premier will be joined by the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Mpho Motlhabane, Local Government and Human Settlement, Motlalepula Rosho and Education and Sport Development MEC, Sello Lehari.
