Police spokesperson, Josephine Rani, says there were no structures vandalized nor were there any injuries reported. She says no arrests were made and the police are still monitoring the situation. It is alleged that community members of Tumahole in Parys were protesting over lack of housing and other service-delivery issues. They alleged the municipality has, for years, failed to allocate them proper sites nor built them RDPs.

The town of Parys, together with Edenville, Heilbron, Koppies, and Vredefort, falls under the financially-troubled Ngwathe Local Municipality which currently owes Eskom nearly R 1 billion.
