The North West police confirm that a rape case has been opened against two perpetrators who allegedly raped a teen pupil at a local school in Potchefstroom.

Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says a 15-year-old girl was indeed raped by the unidentified boys inside the school premises earlier in March 2019. She says none of the two has been arrested,as yet, and according to the rape victim, the boys are unknown to her. Funani says according to information, the suspects are not pupils at the school where they allegedly raped the girl. They allegedly overpowered the girl  inside the toilets and took turns raping her. The Department of Education is yet to comment.

Schools in the province have been hit with a number of incidents,  including violence against teachers and pupils. OFM News previously reported that a 13-year-old girl was found in the school's toilet  with a knife in her stomach. The provincial Education Department spokesperson, Elias Malindi, said according to information available at this stage, teachers were in a meeting when they were alerted by fellow pupils of the stabbing incident. She has since been stabilised and is still receiving care in the hospital.
