NW Education condemns rape of learner─── LUCKY NKUYANE 16:03 Fri, 29 Mar 2019
The North West Department of Education has condemned an incident in which a teen girl was allegedly raped by two unidentified boys at Resolofetse Secondary School, in Ikageng, Potchefstroom.
The spokesperson for the department, Elias Malindi, tells OFM News that the department will not tolerate such incidents and will now strive to ensure that pupils in schools around the province are safe.
This as police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, previously confirmed to OFM News that a case has been opened at a local police station following the incident earlier in March . The two are said to have gang raped the girl in the toilets of the school. Malindi says they discourage any form of violence against any learner in schools around the province and the department is working around the clock to identify all the ‘hotspot’ schools in the province.
Funani said none of the alleged perpetrators have been arrested, as yet, and according to the rape victim, the boys are unknown to her. She added that, according to information, the suspects are not pupils at the school where they allegedly raped the girl.
