Fedcraw embarks on march in Bloemfontein─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:23 Tue, 02 Apr 2019
Free State members of the Federal Council of Retail and Allied Workers (Fedcraw) have embarked on a march in Bloemfontein to express their frustrations over the lack of employment opportunities and outsourcing by the Mangaung Metro Municipality.
The group of approximately 100 workers assembled in Mangaung’s oldest township in Batho Location this morning whereafter they headed to the municipal offices to hand over a memorandum of demands to the executive mayor, Olly Mlamleli.
Some members of this independent trade union have alleged that they bear the brunt of the municipality that awards tenders irregularly to private security companies while those capable with hard-working employees are kicked to the curb. They are steadfast that they will fight for their members to enjoy better working conditions, decent salaries, and job security.
“Some of our members have been given notices of retrenchments and we will not allow that,” said representative, Thabang Reid.
He vows that should their call fall on deaf ears they will make Bloemfontein stand still.
