FS laments loss of young soccer star’s life─── PULANE CHOANE 12:40 Tue, 02 Apr 2019
The MEC of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in the Free State, Mathabo Leeto, is the latest prominent figure in the province to extend her condolences to the family of Sinethemba Jantjie, who died in a car accident in Bethlehem on Monday.
OFM News had reported yesterday that the 30-year-old Free State Stars Football Club player died in a car accident which happened in the early hours of Monday morning in Bethlehem.
Leeto's laments mirror those of Sam Mashinini, who is the MEC for the provincial department of Police, Roads, and Transport, who made similar comments on Monday afternoon, a few hours after the news of the winger's death broke.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued earlier, the police spokesperson in the province, Puleng Lebakeng, reported that it is alleged that Jantjie’s vehicle collided with a stationary truck, instantly ending his life and that of the female passenger that was in the car with him.
Jantjie was a renowned Free State Stars midfielder though he had already signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits, where he was set to make his debut on 1 July later this year. His last appearance for the Free State Stars was on 16 March when the team had a 4-1 victory over Amazulu. The two MECs conveyed their condolences to the star’s family, friends, and the soccer community in the province. Tributes and messages of condolences continue to pour in on various social media platforms with many soccer players and coaches sharing their experiences and memories of the young winger's life.
