The ANC says its Integrity Committee is going to look at their candidate list processes, however, remains steadfast it will not change its list ahead of the much anticipated May 8 elections.
This, despite concerns raised by its tripartite alliance partners, the SACP and members of the public. The party has come under fire over its list of members to be deployed to parliament and legislatures after the elections. Many have criticised the list on grounds that it includes controversial politicians such as the likes of Bathabile Dlamini, Malusi Gigaba, former Free State Agriculture MEC and Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, as well as the embattled former North West ANC chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo. The decision by the party comes as the window period for lodging objections about candidates with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) closes today (Tuesday).
Web: The SACP in the Free State has nonetheless expressed its concern over the inclusion of members who have been implicated in allegations of state capture and vowed it will not support the party on the deployment of any corrupt members.
The Communist Party accused the ANC in the province of undermining alliance partners during the governing party's list process.
The SACP’s Phillip Kgayago said they will certainly not rally behind corrupt members from the Free State whilst hard-working members who are capable to lead were not considered.
According to Kganyago, the list of members nominated to be deployed to both parliament and legislature was not shared amongst all partners and this was amongst some of the reasons they refrained from partaking in the December provincial conference.
