FS political parties set to sign the IEC code of conduct─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 13:12 Wed, 03 Apr 2019
Political parties set to contest the much-anticipated May elections in the Free State are soon expected to sign a code of conduct, committing themselves to free and fair elections.
This, as the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in the province, is set to host a ceremony for the signing of the electoral code of conduct by Free State political parties next week, Friday.
The electorate’s Provincial Manager, Itumeleng Liba, has thus far announced their state of readiness for the elections and confirmed it’s all systems go. In total, 28 political parties are expected to contest the elections in the province. Liba has confirmed that they don’t foresee any major hiccups in the upcoming elections, except for bad weather conditions and load-shedding. He has, however, confirmed that they are making provision for such circumstances. The ceremony is in compliance with the Electoral Act, which requires political parties to publicly commit to abide by all rules and regulations as set out by the Independent Electoral Commission.
The signing ceremony is set to be led by the provincial electoral officer, Jabulani Tshabalala, at Kopano Nokeng, Bloemfontein.
