Brandfort water crisis steadily improving─── 16:31 Wed, 03 Apr 2019
Hopes are high that the water crisis faced in the Free State town of Brandfort will be a thing of the past.
This is according to residents in the financially troubled Masilonyana Municipality’s town. Many have told OFM News that they are pleased they now have running water although there are restrictions placed by the municipality.
The town has come in the spotlight as the world continues to commemorate Winnie Madikizela- Mandela’s one-year anniversary since her passing last year in April.
Madikizela-Mandela was exiled to this town for nearly a decade where she lived at house number 802.
Although displeased with the delays refurbishing the house into a museum, residents in this town breathe a sigh of relief at the fact that their water problems are now being attended to.
The town, situated about 60 km northeast of Bloemfontein, has for more than a decade been experiencing severe water problems in high-lying areas such as Mountain View, Phahameng, and Slovo Park.
It made headlines late last year when residents embarked on service delivery protests. One of the 66-year-old elderly residents told OFM News she is pleased that their water situation is steadily improving.
