FS Education to hand over tablets to learners in QwaQwa─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:36 Fri, 05 Apr 2019
Grade 10 learners from Thahameso Secondary School in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State are going to be the first to receive tablets since the official announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his State of the Nation Address.
This follows after learners from three schools in the province - Vulamasango Secondary school in Bloemfontein, Olien Secondary School in Fauresmith, and Phehellang High School in Parys - are already using the tablets as part of the pilot roll-out.
President Ramaphosa is expected to hand over the tablets during an outreach programme of Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela. The project, Omang, is run by the Closed-loop Learner Network (CLN) and forms part of OFM’s #ForTheLoveOfBooks campaign. The event is set to take place at the Charles Mopeli Stadium. Thousands of learners from the district are expected to attend.
OFM recently joined hands with the non-profit organisation, The Closed Loop Learner Network - Omang, and the Department of Education to further The Rotary Club and OFM News’ #ForTheLoveOfBooks campaign.
OFM’s Marketing Manager, Lindiwe Mtwentula, explains that the aim of this campaign was to collect as many books as possible for children in Central South Africa. She states that in the most recent development regarding the campaign, the radio station has become involved as a media partner in the CLN project in the Free State, which involves implementing President Cyril Ramaphosa’s vision to take tablets to schools. She alludes that this is an effort to improve the state of education and to give learners digital access to textbooks.
