First snowfall brings SA summer to an end─── 15:44 Fri, 05 Apr 2019
South Africans are now officially experiencing the first of the autumn cold, with the first snowfall expected from Friday afternoon.
Snow is predicted for the Drakensberg area in KwaZulu-Natal, between South Africa and Lesotho.
South Africa Weather Service (SAWS) forecaster, Mbavhi Maliage, says the snowfall will bring with it, heavy rainfall over some central parts of the country.
"It's what we call an upper air trough affecting the country, bringing a lot of rainfall over the central part, but it's bringing a lot of cooler air into the country.
"Especially along the high laying areas it cools it down where it is enough to form some snow in the Drakensberg area," says Maliage.
She adds winter is slowly on the approach.
