President Cyril Ramaphosa says he has full confidence that the Free State Department of Education will continue improving the quality of education in the province.

He has applauded the province for their top matric pass rate and said he is certain they will reclaim the first position countywide with the class of 2019. He further expressed his gratitude to the provincial government for being the first province to roll out tablets at schools in efforts to improve the state of education and to give learners digital access to textbooks.

After handing over hundreds of tablets to Grade 10 learners from the Thahameso Secondary School in Phuthaditjhaba, Ramaphosa assured the public that they are going to fast-track this initiative and involve more schools in the province.

This school was the first to receive tablets since the official announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa in his State of the Nation Address (SONA). This project was run by the Closed-loop Learner Network (CLN).

Ramaphosa further encouraged learners to study hard and look beyond the socio-economic challenges faced in the area as the provincial government is attending to them.

His remarks on the plight faced by communities in Phuthaditjhaba came after the learners' representative outlined challenges regarding a lack of water and electricity supply which hinders progress.
