Will IEC name Mahumapelo’s detractors?─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:16 Tue, 09 Apr 2019
Questions are mounting whether the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will bow to pressure from the former North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo, during a media briefing on Tuesday morning, 9 April 2019.
This as Mahumapelo wants the IEC to name his detractors who objected to his name on the African National Congress (ANC) candidates list to parliament. Media reports on the weekend have Mahumapelo saying he had written to the IEC requesting information about the complaint against him following alleged objections to his name.
However, the commission’s spokesperson, Kate Bapela, told OFM News that the commission will clarify its position in all of these during a planned media briefing today. Meanwhile, the IEC in the Free State is today also expected to paint a clear picture of its state of readiness ahead of the much-anticipated general elections in exactly a month. The electorate’s Provincial Manager, Itumeleng Liba, previously told OFM News that they don’t foresee any major hiccups in the upcoming elections, except for bad weather conditions and load-shedding.
