NW Education still investigating forfeiture of R125 million grant | News Article

After weeks of investigating the millions of rands that the North West Department of Education forfeited to the Eastern Cape Province, clarity around the matter is still to be given by the department.

This as spokesperson Freddy Sepeng tells OFM News that the MEC is still investigating the matter and so far nothing can be revealed. OFM News previously reported that the department is investigating reasons why it forfeited its R125 million conditional grant for schooling infrastructure.

MEC Sello Lehari was set to engage with senior executives of the department with the hope of establishing as to what went wrong. Sepeng says the department will explain its findings once the investigation has been concluded.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) previously accused the department of spending a mere 51% of their total grant in this financial year, despite the fact that the 104 schools in the province are still using pit latrines, with issues of insufficient sanitation and unsafe buildings.
