Mangaung Metro employee implicated in bribe scandal | News Article

An official at the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, 55-year-old Nosisana Susan Ntsukunyane, pled guilty to trying to solicit money from a resident of the metro in exchange for a title deed at one of the local housing sites.

This is according to the spokesperson of the Hawks in the Free State, Lynda Steyn, who told OFM News that Ntsukunyane pled guilty at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court last week Friday after it was found that she demanded R1500 from the complainant, in exchange for changing the particulars on a title deed. It remains unclear, however, when the incident took place as well as how long investigations took before the accused was apprehended.

After the complainant reported the incident, the Hawks in the Free State’s Special Crime Investigation Unit started looking into the matter, following which Ntsukunyane was arrested as it was found that she was not supposed to have demanded money from the official, as part of her work description and duties at the metro includes working with title deeds and changing the particulars thereof. She was then offered a sentence of R10 000 or 30 months' imprisonment.

Ntsukunyane was charged in line with The Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004. OFM News awaits further particulars on other details from Steyn on the matter, such as the period in which this alleged crime took place as well as the name of the complainant and which housing site the title deed under question belonged to. Meanwhile, the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is yet to respond to questions sent to them on the matter, which pertain to the accused’s exact job title, steps taken against her by the municipality and how the metro will ensure that such incidences do not happen going forward.
