Arrested Celtic supporters to appear in court on Tuesday─── 12:29 Mon, 15 Apr 2019
Police have confirmed that 10 Bloemfontein Celtic supporters who were arrested on Sunday after they invaded the pitch in a game against Cape Town City will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The match was abandoned after 25 minutes when supporters who have been boycotting the matches since the beginning of the year, stormed the pitch showing their dissatisfaction with the owner Max Tshabalala whom they want to sell the team to a local businesswoman, Sinki Leshabane, and her consortium.
The South African Police Services fired rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse a crowd who invaded the pitch and forced the abandonment of the match.
Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, confirmed to OFM News that ten supporters were arrested and charged with contravention of the Sasria Act for invading the pitch. They will appear in court on Tuesday.
He says nine males and one female were arrested, with the youngest being 26 and the oldest 59.
OFM News also reliably learned that the management of the team, the potential buyer Leshabane, and the supporters’ leadership are currently meeting with the provincial government to see if they can find a solution to the ongoing protests by the supporters.
Both the supporters’ chairman, Mabena Pule, and the team’s CEO, Khumbulani Konco, condemned the pitch invasion.
Meanwhile, the supporters say they will attend the court appearance in their droves on Tuesday to show their support for the arrested fans.
The PSL is expected to announce the venue for the rematch. They said it would be a neutral venue.
