#Election2019: FS SACP rally behind ANC despite concerns over ANC List─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:11 Tue, 16 Apr 2019
The SACP in the Free State says it is fully behind the ANC as the country nears the upcoming general elections.
The Communist Party’s Phillip Kgayago tells OFM News that they are going to rally behind the ruling party ahead of the much-anticipated May 8 elections.
This, despite the tripartite alliance partners’ differences about the ANC provincial list for members set to be deployed to parliament and legislature post the elections.
The SACP has previously vowed not to support the party nor campaign for it should the ANC include members implicated in state capture on its list.
The Communist Party accused the ANC in the province of undermining alliance partners during the governing party's list process and alleged that some hard working members who are capable to lead were not considered.
With just 22 days to the elections, Kgayago says the SACP has always supported the ANC and are engaging in the mobilisation activities to encourage residents to vote for the ruling party.
“The ANC is the only organisation that is really carrying a proper programme to address the socio-economic needs of the people of the country. That is why the SACP supports the ANC, as it has historically.”
Kgayago explains they had problems with the actions of particular individual leaders in the organisation that were inconsistent with the agreed norms and methods of operation within the alliance.
“The party in the province still has an issue with the election list or the list of representatives. That is a separate matter we are going to engage on with the ANC through our own internal alliance mechanism, whilst we are at the same time engaged in the elections campaign,” says Kgayago.
The ANC was under fire for including controversial politicians such as the likes of former Free State Agriculture MEC and Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, Bathabile Dlamini, Malusi Gigaba, as well as the embattled former North West ANC chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo, on its list.
Meanwhile, the ANC in a statement communicated that it is vindicated after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) a week ago dismissed all objections to candidates from the ruling party standing for parliament and provincial legislatures.
