Four motorists have already been arrested on roads in the Free State ahead of the Easter long weekend.

According to the Department of Police, Roads and Transport, the four motorists were travelling over the speed limit in a 120km/h zone. The department’s Hillary Mophethe adds that two of the offenders had previous charges relating to driving without a valid licence and bribing a traffic official. She says the offenders have been released on bail ranging from R2 000 to R4 000. The department is further urging motorists to drive with caution and obey the rules of the road as they expect traffic volumes to increase. Mophethe says they are expecting an influx of taxis travelling between the Ladybrand Maseru border and Ficksburg, as well as on other major routes.

OFM News earlier reported that traffic volumes at the Verkeerdevlei Toll Plaza started increasing as early as 06:00 with Mophethe stating that they have noted about 250 vehicles passing at this toll-gate just between 06:00 and 07:00 this morning.
