Normalcy returns to FS towns following unrest─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:31 Fri, 19 Apr 2019
The situation in Kroonstad and Steynsrus in the Free State has returned to normal after the unrest that broke out last week.
Residents in these towns barricaded roads with stone and burning tyres in protest against poor services and a lack of job opportunities, among other issues.
The protests, which started in Kroonstad, saw several state and private properties being vandalised in addition to trucks, two municipal vehicles and a post office that was set alight.
Police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the situation in the two towns has calmed and that the group of protesters arrested for public violence is expected to appear in the Kroonstad Magistrate's Court next week for bail application after they remained in custody.
