Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says the 47-year-old father and eight-year-old son suffered severe facial and head wounds.

She adds they have registered a case of robbery and no arrests have yet been made. She says only a bunch of keys that were hanging behind the kitchen door have been reported missing thus far and investigations into the case still continue.

It is alleged two suspects were involved in the crime. Meanwhile, the boy's grandmother who was also injured during the robbery has been discharged from hospital.
