Relief efforts by government and private stakeholders, including OFM, for Welkom's Bronville flood disaster victims, is starting to yield results.

This as the management of the Gold Fields Mall in Welkom, Free State, on Friday after the drive for donations was launched, indicated that a few crucial items were handed over to help those affected by the disaster. Items that include food, blankets, and clothes were donated. The relief follows after more than 60 houses, as well as roads in the city, were flooded. Those wanting to help are urged to drop off essential items and non-perishable food at the Goldfields Mall. Bloemfontein donations can also be dropped off at the Central Media Office Park close to Northridge Mall on Monday. Donations will be handed over on Tuesday.

OFM News previously reported the Mayor for the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Nkosinjani Speelman, said the affected residents had to be evacuated to places of safety where the municipality and other government bodies are assisting with necessities. Meanwhile, Speelman warns the area is still affected and calls on residents who still need help to get in touch with the municipality.

Items such as baby nappies and formula milk are expected to be purchased by the centre management at a cost of R2000.

Speelman also warned that the situation in the area is still bad and he cautions residents who still need help to urgently get in touch with the municipality.
