Young suspected Jouberton looters to appear in court on Friday─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:36 Thu, 02 May 2019
A group of young, suspected looters who were arrested during violent protests in Jouberton in Klerksdorp will tomorrow re-appear before the city’s Children’s Court on charges of public violence.
The minors were arrested for allegedly looting foreign-owned shops and the destruction of property in Extension 10 in that area, following service delivery protests.
North West police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, said after the minors’ first court appearance, they were released into the care of their legal guardians. She says they were part of a group of 18 people arrested in that area.
The looting and destruction of property have since received much condemnation from the residents on social media, such as Facebook, with locals venting their frustration with the looting incident. Residents labelled the incident as senseless and unnecessary. Earlier reports also said that foreign nationals have been taken to a place of safety.
