#Celtic fans to appear in court─── 17:52 Thu, 16 May 2019
Bloemfontein Celtic supporters who were arrested for pitch invasion in April in an Absa Premiership league encounter against Cape Town City at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The supporters who were released on R500 bail each, stormed the pitch showing their dissatisfaction demanding that the owner, Max Tshabalala, sell the team to a local businesswoman, Sinki Leshabane, and her consortium.
The fans went on a rampage and stopped the match after 25 minutes of play. The police used rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse the crowd.
The 13 supporters were initially arrested for contravening the Sasria Act, nine were released on R500 bail, two on free bail and one was released without being charged, as he was not linked with the case
Even before the pitch invasion, since the beginning of the year, Siwelele supporters were boycotting the matches. They said pitch invasion was their last resort for management to hear their plea for Tshabalala to sell the club.
Fans staged a protest outside the court in support of the fellow club supporters who were arrested.
Since the incident, the PSL ordered the team to play their games outside the Free State and used Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London for the two remaining home games which they convincingly won.
Since then, there has been discontent by the supporters following the news that Ajax Cape Town is interested in buying the status of Celtic.
On Wednesday, however, OFM News reported that the club’s chairman Max Tshabalala has assured the multitudes of fans that the club is not for sale and they are hard at work preparing for next season.
