MPLs gear up for first sitting in central SA─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 07:09 Wed, 22 May 2019
The Free State, North West and Northern Cape Legislatures will be a hive of activity this morning when they hold their first sitting to elect the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip, and their Premiers for the sixth administration.
Spokespersons for the three legislatures in central South Africa have confirmed that all preparation ran smoothly and it is all systems go for Wednesday. Expectations are high that Sisi Ntombela in the Free State will be elected as the premier and retain her position as per the ANC premier candidate list.
In the Northern Cape, ANC chairperson Zamani Saul is expected to take the reins as the premier after Sylvia Lucas has been deployed to be deputy chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, while Job Mokgoro will also retain his position in the North West.
The official programme of the first sitting in all the three houses will commence at 10:00.
