The Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein has launched an exhibition of world renowned artist, Esther Mahlangu.
Titled “Timeless - Between Matter and Spirit”, Mahlangu’s solo works as an Ndebele artist debuted at the museum yesterday (thursday) evening.
A selection of her art works and heavily beaded blankets in celebration of her as an artist and also in commemoration of Africa month, which is annually celebrated in May, is on show at the museum’s main building until 23 June.
Mahlangu was born in Mpumalanga in 1935 and was the first Ndebele artist to transfer her traditional Ndebele mural paintings to a canvas.
Her work has been featured in various art collections across the globe, and she has worked with internationally recognised brands and celebrities such as car giant BMW and RnB sensation, John Legend.
