The police in the North West town of Mmakau, near Brits have denied that there are violent protests in the area, following an incident of a bus that was allegedly set alight.

OFM News yesterday received information suggesting that the bus was set alight by angry protesters in the area.

However, according to the provincial police’s spokesperson, Aafje Bothma, the rumours of protest action came about after an old bus, with engine problems, caught fire following an electrical fault.

As the bus was burning, passer-by’s and residents quickly assumed disgruntled residents may have set the bus alight owing to protests action.

This rumour quickly spread throughout the town. Bothma further said that no one has been hurt since the incident and no arrests were made.

The bus, which was on a sidewalk, has since stopped burning.
