According to spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, the department has checked with the necessary laboratories to determine if there are any laboratory test results that may be indicative of any swine flu cases in humans and nothing was found. 

This follows after messages were circulating on social media warning people against possible swine flu infections.

"We appeal for calm in all our communities and wish to assure you of a speedy notification should there be any such case reported," says Mvambi.

He adds the department is always on the alert for any outbreak of diseases.

"As a department, we are working closely with all pathology laboratories, private hospitals and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

Mvambi says the department will be able to timely inform the public about any outbreak of diseases, should any occur. 

He urges those who experience any flu like symptoms, do not panic, seek medical attention your nearest health service provider.

"We are assuring you once more that there is no outbreak of swine flu affecting humans in the Free State," Mvambi concludes.
