NW yet to reveal new cabinet─── PULANE CHOANE 14:04 Mon, 27 May 2019
The North West provincial government is still deliberating on who will be part of its provincial cabinet.
This is according to incoming Premier Job Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, who told OFM News that Mokgoro will probably make this announcement later this week.
This as Mokgoro’s inaugural address is currently underway in Mahikeng, where he earlier took his oath under the watchful eye of the Judge President Monica Leeuw who presided over his inauguration ceremony. Prior to the ANC announcing that Mokgoro was its premier candidate for the province following the national general elections earlier this month, there had been uncertainty over who would take up this seat as it was shrouded with controversy as Mokgoro stepped in last year, after former premier, Supra Mahumapelo, was forced to resign following mass violent protests.
OFM News’ Pulane Choane reports that a political analyst says it is hard to tell whether or not Mahumapelo may return as a member of Mokgoro’s cabinet, considering the recent court battle between the ANC in the province and Mahumapelo.
Mokgoro was asked to act as the interim premier since June last year after Mahumapelo resigned, Mahumapelo then took the ANC to court and won, with the court ruling stating that he was illegally removed from his position as ANC chairperson and should occupy office immediately. Political analyst, Dr Sethulego Mathebesi, says at this point it’s hard to tell if Mahumapelo may make the cut as one of Mokgoro’s members of the Provincial Executive Committee, as whether or not he is added to the committee is dependent on his willingness to work with the party.
Meanwhile, OFM News’ correspondent in the North West, Olefile Vilakazi, reports that in his inauguration ceremony, he said he hopes to regain the trust of those supporters the party may have lost in the previous administration. He said he intends to do this by going back to basics and implementing the principles of Batho Pele.
