FS Premier to announce her cabinet

FS Premier to announce her cabinet | News Article

The Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela is expected to announce the members of her Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in Bloemfontein on Tuesday at 14:00.

This comes after she was announced as the premier candidate for the province by the ANC after they won the general elections over two weeks ago.

Ntombela's spokesperson, Tiisetso Makhele told OFM News that this announcement follows extensive consultations which were done to ensure that the provincial executive council is one that is able to respond to the needs of the people in the province.

The Free State seems to be trailblazing the North West and Northern Cape provinces in terms of how quickly they are getting to work with ensuring that the newly elected provincial Premiers get into office. Last week, Ntombela's office was the first among the three provinces in Central SA to hold her inaugural swearing-in ceremony and this week, she is again the first to announce members of her cabinet.

In a statement regarding today's announcement, Makhele implied that residents of the Free State can look forward to a capable, representative and qualitatively constituted team of MECs after her announcement later.

The North West, led by Job Mokgoro, had it's inaugural address yesterday but in an earlier interview with Mokgoro's spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, it was said that this address would be later this week. Ngesi at the time could not specify when exactly this week this would be.

The Northern Cape, led by Zamani Saul, will have it's first inaugural address in Kimberley's Lerato Park today but is also yet to state when Saul will announce who the members of his provincial executive will be for the next five years.

Meanwhile, nationally, the Presidency led by Cyril Ramaphosa, announced on Sunday that it would be making its own announcement of Ramaphosa's cabinet later this week. This despite media reports which were circulating over the weekend, which had stated that this was to be done on Monday, fuelling speculation on who will make the cut to Ramaphosa's first executive council as the democratically elected president and whether he will reduce the number of departments. Currently, there are 35 departments.
