NC premier to announce cabinet today─── PULANE CHOANE 11:32 Wed, 29 May 2019
The Premier of the Northern Cape, Zamani Saul, is expected to later today announce the members of his provincial Executive Council.
This comes after Saul delivered his inaugural address at an informal settlement known a Lerato Park in Kimberley, where among other things, he vowed to improve the lives of those living in these settlements across the province, sell the state house and ensure that the proceeds thereof go towards the Premier Bursary Fund and ensure that no new luxury vehicles will be ordered for members of his cabinet. These funds would then rather be used to purchase ambulances for the province. Addressing the crowd, he also said his cabinet would be smaller.
Saul further stated that all the people he will elect as Members of the Executive Council (MECs) must understand that the opportunity to serve the people of the province is an honour. "Our work as this 6th Administration will be uncompromisingly people-centred and we are going to cut the extra fat to the bone. We are not here for blue lights and self-indulgence. All MECs to be appointed to this 6th administration must understand that the opportunity to serve our people is an absolute honour and not a stepladder to riches and fame. We are not royalty here, but ordinary and simple social and political activists," Saul said in his speech.
Meanwhile, as part of a more people-focused administration, Saul also stated that he would in the next five years focus on improving education in the province, curbing the high youth unemployment rate as well as improving service delivery in all aspects of local government, with a specific focus on the health and education departments.
