Four of five accused of killing, assaulting maize thieves get bail─── PULANE CHOANE 10:08 Thu, 30 May 2019
Four of the five men who were arrested for allegedly killing one and assaulting three others for allegedly attempting to steal maize on a farm at Kroonstad received R1000 bail each.
This is according to the Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, who said that the men appeared at the Kroonstad Magistrate's Court yesterday for a crime are accused of committing over the weekend.
The 25-year-old suspect, Tiisetso Maseli, remains in custody while his co-accused, Cornelius Gideon Keller (26), Toko Jonas Molise (21), Paballo Maselesele (23), and Abraham Hlalele (24) were all granted bail. At the moment, it remains unclear why Maseli was denied bail. Questions have, however, been sent to Thakeng with regards to this. The group will appear at the court again on 26 June.
OFM News previously reported the men were arrested on Saturday 22 May after they allegedly beat three victims with sticks and sjamboks after allegedly found stealing maize. The body of another man, said to have been the fourth victim, was found on the grass alongside the Kroonstad to Viljoenskroon Roads after the suspects also allegedly beat and choked him to death.
