Student (19) remains behind bars following gruesome murder in Welkom─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 14:42 Thu, 30 May 2019
The case against a 19-year-old student who was arrested in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old woman whose body was discovered in an open field in Welkom in the Free State has been postponed to June the 14th.
The woman, identified as Naledi Lethoba, was found more than a week ago with a knife stuck in her neck, her lower body and face burnt, while her breasts were cut off.
Police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the 21-year-old Naledi was a student at Goldfields TVET College in Welkom and her body was discovered after the police received information about the body that was lying in an open field on May 19.
She was identified by her parents last week Friday at the Welkom mortuary.
Following the 19-year-old suspect Obed Leshoro’s brief appearance before the Welkom Magistrate's Court earlier today, Thakeng confirms that he will remain in custody until June 14 for a formal bail application. The motive for the gruesome murder remains unknown and investigations into the case continue.
OFM News previously reported that the 19-year-old student got arrested on May 28 after his parents handed him over to the police.
