The horrific discovery of Monica and Basil Deniacos was made when the couple's helper arrived for work at their home on Thursday morning.

According to police spokesperson Sam Makhele, Monica was found lying in the passage, covered in blood, and her husband's body was found between the bed and wall, also covered in blood.

Makhele said they suspect that the couple were murdered with a blunt object.

He added that the family's Toyota bakkie is also missing from their home and police are investigating two cases of murder, and house robbery.

DA leader in the Free State, Patricia Kopane, says they are still shocked with the horrific murder of the couple.

She says it is with deep sadness that the DA was informed of the murder of Councillor Monica Deniacos and her husband Basil.

Kopane says Councillor Deniacos always served the community of Dealesville, Boshof and Hertzogville to the best of her abilities and was a much loved public representative of the Party as its sole representative on the Tokologo Council since 2016.

The DA sends condolences to her family, loved ones, friends and the community of Tokologo in this sad time, Kopane added.
