According  to police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh , visible policing task team members were on patrol duty when they saw the  suspects that were about to rob two female students.

She says a chase ensued after the suspects fled the scene upon realising that the police saw them. Myburgh says the police, together with a private security company’s officers, managed to arrest three suspects while the fourth one fled in a vehicle and evaded the arrest.

She added that the firearm which was apparently used in the commission of the crime was found on the scene.

She said the three suspects, aged between 24 and 33, are also linked with another robbery wherein two other ladies were robbed of their cell phones in the same area.

She said they will appear on charges of armed robbery, attempted robbery and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence.
