Bloemfontein police on top of upsurge in car theft, hijackings─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 10:32 Mon, 03 Jun 2019
Police in Bloemfontein acknowledge there has been a slight uptick in reported instances of vehicle theft and attempted carjackings, but want to assure the public that the authorities are on top of the problem and doing their best to resolve it.
The Park Road Cluster Commander in the Free State capital, Kgothatso Ramokotjo, acknowledges the busy police station has seen a rise in reported car theft in the city and he is also aware that the Mangaung Cluster, on the other hand, is experiencing an increase in hijackings. Ramokotjo says they suspect the upsurge in vehicle theft might be linked to a syndicate, but stresses the public should be vigilant, not alarmed.
“Report any suspicious movements, suspicious people. People must just be aware of their surroundings.”
The Cluster Commander says people must ensure their vehicles are indeed locked. Thus far no arrests have been made in connection with the attempts.
