Dealesville murders: Suspects released | News Article

The two suspects that were arrested in relation to the murder of DA councillor in Dealesville, Monica Deniacos, and her husband, Basil, have been released.

This is according to the spokesperson of the Hawks in the Free State, Lynda Steyn, who told OFM News that the suspects were released last night. In an earlier interview with the MEC of Cogta in the province, Thembeni Ngcangisa, who visited the home of the deceased to pay his respects, OFM News learnt that the alleged suspects in the case were released after the police did not have enough grounds to arrest them for the murder of the couple.

Investigations into the matter continue as the spokesperson of the Hawks in the Free State, Lynda Steyn said that the two men, who OFM News has now learnt are illegal immigrants, were suspects in the murder case but they were never charged by the police in the province for the murder. She further said the men were released last night. OFM News earlier reported that the duo was set to appear in the local court on charges related to the fact that they are in the country without the required documentation. At the time of this broadcast, information on whether this had happened yet or what the men's names are, had not yet been conveyed to OFM News.

As per the information that had been provided in an earlier report, the Free State-based couple’s bloodied bodies were discovered by their helper when she arrived for work on Friday morning, May 31. Police spokesperson in the province, Motantsi Makhele, said a blunt object has been identified as the murder weapon. Makhele says Monica, who was 68 years old, was found lying in the passage while her 74-year-old husband’s body was found beside the bed. A gun and a Toyota bakkie, belonging to the couple, has been reported missing. Neither the gun nor the vehicle has at this point been recovered. Police believe that the incident occurred on Thursday, the day before their bodies were found.
