FS biker hit by bakkie is in a stable condition | News Article

The 22-year-old man who can be seen getting hit on his bike by a speeding bakkie in a video that is currently doing the rounds on social media is in a stable condition.

This is according to Free State Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, who confirmed to OFM News that Jason Pieters is recovering at the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein after a bakkie hit him while he was stationary at a traffic light in the city. The crash is said to have happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Zastron Street. While Mvambi said he could not provide more information on Pieters’ condition, he confirmed that the man is receiving medical attention at the hospital’s High Care Unit in the Trauma Department.

Ryno Pieters, who is Jason’s elder brother, told OFM News his brother is sedated but could talk to them last night. He says the family has been inundated with support and wishes for his brother to recover soon.

Meanwhile, TimesLive reports that according to the man’s father, who is identified as Johan in the article, the man who bumped his son allegedly also lied about what happened on Saturday when he met Jason’s family to take the bike to the Pieterse family. "It looks like he picked the bike up and loaded it onto his bakkie, but the Sunday he brought the bike in a different car. I personally met the guy, but he was very deceitful and told me that my son drove into him. I actually believed him and thanked him for being honest," the father says. Pieters said he saw the video of the incident only on Monday morning.

OFM News earlier published the video and reported that police in the province are investigating two cases of negligent and reckless driving which have been opened against the suspect. Despite questions sent to her, police spokesperson, Wendy Nkabi, did not state whether the suspect has been arrested yet or not.
