A manhunt has been launched for four trial-awaiting detainees from Vryburg who managed to escape the Pudimoe Police Station in the North West at the start of the long weekend.

Police spokesperson Sam Tselenyane tells OFM News six prisoners escaped initially on June 14 but as of Sunday June 16, two have been rearrested while four are still at large. Tselenyane says the suspects were arrested for committing various offences including aggravated robbery, housebreaking and possession of stolen property and weren’t a gang involved in the same crime necessarily.

The suspects escaped through the roof of the police station. The escapees are between the ages of 24 and 37. Tselenyane says their names are: Sipho Mohutsiwa, Hendrik Papier, Lawrence Ntwagae, and Tumelo Setlhodi. He urges community members in the province and elsewhere to assist authorities and provide them with any information on the men. One of the suspects who was rearrested, 24-year-old, Oageng Senye, was handed over to police by his father.
