IEC geared for FS municipal by-elections─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:54 Sat, 22 Jun 2019
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State says preparations for two municipal by-elections set to take place in Moqhaka and Matjhabeng Municipalities in August, are running smoothly.
The IEC says Ward 20 in Moqhaka and Ward 17 in Matjhabeng will be contested by various political parties as well as independent candidates.
The wards became vacant as a result of the resignation of councillors.
The IEC’s Mmathabo Rasengane says registration for these upcoming by-elections is open today and tomorrow to allow eligible voters to register. Two voting stations are open for registrations in Moqhaka, while five are open in Matjhabeng.
Residents in Moqhaka can head to Kgabareng Secondary School, and the Prayer House to register, while those in Matjhabeng can head to Adelaide Tambo Technical School, Lemotso Primary School, End of Age Church, Dr Mngoma Primary School, and Living Hope Church.
All voters are urged to take their ID, smartcard ID or a temporary ID with when they go register.
Rasengane adds that they will also need to complete their physical home address on registration or provide sufficient particularities of their place of residence.
