This is according to a Free State police spokesperson, Phumelele Dlamini, who told OFM News that at around 06:00 this morning residents of the town barricaded the R26 road that connects the town to other nearby towns such as Ficksburg and Wepener with burning tyres and rocks.

This after they allegedly did not receive answers from the Mantsopa Local Municipality which had allegedly said it would respond to their concerns on land site allocations by close of business yesterday.

Since the protests took place earlier this morning, Dlamini confirmed that the tyre debris and rubble have been cleared off the road and calm has been restored. Meanwhile, OFM News tried to contact Dumile Nana, the municipal spokesperson, with no avail. Questions have, however, been sent to him on the matter.
