Four arrested following Ladybrand protests─── PULANE CHOANE 09:45 Thu, 04 Jul 2019
Four people have been arrested following violent protests that broke out in Ladybrand.
OFM News had reported that protests broke out in the town yesterday following the Mantsopa Local Municipality’s alleged failure to communicate timeously on a land site allocation issue.
This morning, a police spokesperson in the Free State, Phumelelo Dlamini, said following yesterday morning’s protests, the residents again tried to protest in the evening. Four protesters were then arrested for public violence. The suspects, namely three males and one female, were arrested at around 17:00 yesterday evening, however, police acted swiftly thereby diffusing the protests altogether. Dlamini says since the arrests, there have been no other attempts to protest.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Mantsopa Local Municipality, Dumile Nana, is yet to respond to questions OFM News had sent him yesterday on allegations residents have made regarding the municipality's failure to give them answers on the land site allocations.
