FS website investigation at advanced stage - PP | News Article
Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane

The investigation in relation to the controversial provincial website worth millions of rands, which had to be redesigned during the embattled former Free State Premier Ace Magashule's reign, is at an advanced stage.

This is according to the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane. She revealed this during a media briefing this on Friday 5 July where she reported on her investigations on, amongst others, the Sars rogue unit and Public Enterprise Minister, Pravin Gordhan.

Mkhwebane says the provincial website investigations are among the cases that are being dealt with, without fear or favour, despite allegations that she is bias and selective. News24 previously reported that the provincial government paid R40 million and not R140 million to have its website redesigned, according to former FS government director-general.

According to the Sowetan, former Director-General Elzabe Rockman, allegedly signed a three-year contract to redesign the website in 2011. Rockman, however, disputed this amount. Mkhwebane’ has found that Gordhan violated section 41(1) of the Constitution when allowing a so-called rogue unit” at South African Revenue Services (SARS) to operate during his time as SARS commissioner.

During her media the briefing, Mkhwebane said minister Gordhan’s claims that he wasn’t involved of recruitment of staff for the Rogue Unit is improbable. She further ordered President Cyril Ramaphosa to take appropriate disciplinary action against Gordhan within 30 days. She also orders that he face an ethics investigation in Parliament.  She orders NPA to take effective steps to finalize SARS Rogue Unit prosecution.
