#NCSOPA: Education profile of youth must be improved─── PULANE CHOANE 18:02 Fri, 05 Jul 2019
Unemployment among the youth is a major target for the Northern Cape premier, Zamani Saul.
He has on numerous occasions expressed his intentions to, as the premier, use all the resources at his disposal to reduce the high rate of unemployment among the youth in the province.
Speaking from the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley during his State of the Province Address, Saul said that as a means of addressing unemployment, one of his focuses will be on improving the quality of education offered at schools in the province and also to ensure that education and opportunities thereof can be accessed by all in the province.
Speaking to a hall filled with both members of the public and dignitaries from local, provincial and national government, Saul told members of the audience that education will be a key focus in his administration, as he aims to improve the education profile of the youth in his province.
He added that his end goal is to develop future smart leaders for the province, nation and world at large and that he would only do this by now confronting the challenges plaguing the basic education system. These include a shortage of teachers, absenteeism, textbook shortages and inadequate resources, among others.
Saul promised that these issues would receive urgent attention from the provincial Department of Basic Education.
He also raised his concern about hunger - particularly among young children - especially with it being school holidays as many of young primary scholars who form part of feeding schemes offered at lower quintile schools now have to deal with not eating as often as they do at their schools, owing to the dire socio-economic conditions they are faced with.
