Over 200 people arrested by North West police last week will appear in various courts around the province today (Monday, July 8).

Among these suspects is one of North West’s most wanted criminals, Godfrey Moganedi, who has managed to evade authorities since 2012. Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says Moganedi and the 238 other suspects were arrested on Thursday and Friday in raid operations around the province.

The vast majority of the suspects were apprehended in connection with assault cases. Close to thirty are facing charges related to crimes against women and children. Funani says only one person was apprehended for murder, namely Moganedi. She says “15 were arrested for malicious damage to property, 25 for theft, six for rape and 19 for residential and business burglaries”.

Moganedi has been wanted in connection with murder, business robbery and a carjacking which occurred in Itsoseng and Lichtenburg respectively at least seven years ago. Details around his arrest are not completely clear, however, Provincial Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, commended the police for the major arrest.
